Pull in on empty on a long summer night Cicada serenade beneath honeysuckle moonlight Dew on my windshield and wind in my face You won't see me looking back for evidence of disgrace Candlelight casts so far... Shadows dancing, so dark On any given day, I can be caught in between The retrospect of your memories and this dream Going through phases, the man in the moon's demise A fall from grace playing out right in front of our eyes Candlelight casts so far... Shadows dancing, so dark Making molehills into mountains Dragging that old horse around Oh, that indifferent blank stare Just pay your debts before you leave town We've all been knocked down But you're dragging that old horse around So just act like you care And pay your debts before you leave town Before you leave town Before you leave town Before you leave town

We're taking our time Shuffling along in the midday heat No rest for the weary And we've seen it all on South Eleventh Street The houses were nice Oh, maybe fifty years ago But don't think twice 'Cause all of those people are dead and gone Oh yeah Just now, we're taking it all in stride With nowhere to go, and no place to hide And do you blame them for mistrusting every face that they meet? I don't because we live on South Eleventh Street Just living life It gets so hard in the day to day The cost of groceries Brother, it takes every penny saved Oh yeah Just now, we're taking it all in stride With nowhere to go, and no place to hide And do you blame them for mistrusting every face that they meet? I don't because we live on South Eleventh Street And do you blame them for mistrusting every face that they meet? I don't because we live on South Eleventh Street And do you blame them for mistrusting every face that they meet?

They're closing everything down, first the stores, and then the bars They boarded up the churches, sold the land, and lit their fine cigars But untraveled dirt roads still kick up a lot of dust When you're living in a town that has just given up and gone bust As mine has... And I'd bet my last silver dollar that nobody even cares And there's nothing left to say because it's over I don't even know what I was doing here anyway Living above my means, above my head, above my grade Do you know what it means being in a place where you don't belong 'Cause even when you're not alone the emptiness goes on and on As mine has... And I'd bet my last silver dollar that nobody even cares And there's nothing left to say because it's over Leaving this town, no need for goodbye, there's no one to tell Living this life, it's been so hard, and lately it's been hell Empty homes, and empty souls, is this the American dream? We stood by, and watched it die, and now it's all drifted downstream But not for me... And I'd bet my last silver dollar that nobody even cares And it's really such a shame because it's over The streets are empty, and the bells are quiet, and all the rugs threadbare And there's nothing left for me because it's over

I must admit it I never meant to come back to this place You must be surprised to see my face But don't go thinking I came to see the way you are today My old eyes just want to see this old place And I just came back for the memories No, I can't let them go They're in my heart They're in my heart They're in my heart They're in my heart Oh I remember Standing in the shallows of the stream A thousand years ago or so it seems Do you remember the day that you said those things to me? I keep them close under lock and key And I just came back for the memories No, I can't let them go They're in my heart They're in my heart They're in my heart They're in my heart

Meant to Be 04:10
I met her in May I think it was a Tuesday And I lost myself when I looked in her eyes Then everything I need Was right there in front of me And I knew I'd love her for the rest of my life Sometimes it seems that life gives you love and light 'Cause I'd found a thing that I know was so right I gave her my heart so free I don't give it easily But I've always been told Some things are meant to be The air is sweet And soft the grass beneath your feet Turns dry and brown with the passing of time I met her in May She left on a Saturday Taking only with her my heart and my mind Most times it seems that life is one long goodbye Oh the faces and names, they're changing all of the time Oh enjoy the garden so green It dies eventually I've known all along Some things are meant to be Enjoy your garden so green Because it dies eventually But we've known all along Some things are meant to be

Raise a toast to the millions that thirst In a dry land where the cloud never bursts Hello mirror, hypocrisy is thy name Many that have, many more that have not And many ungrateful for the things that they've got And getting even more's become just a game Oh let us in, we've kept out too long Let us make right the things that are wrong And maybe history will remember us well Can you see the disease, or feel the pain Of the hungry children simply in need of grain? Do you even care? Because I can't tell Can't you see that we're starved nearly to death? And men speak desperation with every breath Do you know the types of things desperate men do? So I suggest you lock down, and lock it down tight Desperate people are out there tonight It's nothing personal, we do what we gotta do Pray let us dine and don't spare the wine We'll share in your increase Open the doors, empty the drawers Call it the beggars' feast Over the walls, we'll take it all Surrender all of your means Soon come the light, but we have the night Call it the beggars' feast To banquet we come, for all or none Do unto us as the least Now we are strong, we've been hungry too long Call it the beggars' feast Pray let us dine and don't spare the wine Until the pantries are fleeced Fill up the board, and then bring some more Call it the beggars' feast

We all say Friday night's okay With a guitar in my hands And in my home on Saturday I make my own plan On the Lord's Day I bow and pray I try to find some rest But I dismay, the hours slipping away It gets me down I must confess Morning's on the way, and tomorrow's a working day I keep on working 'cause the bills are due I get the Sunday night blues, Sunday night blues I get up early every day And I enter the race There's a thousand cars along the way All going the same place And their story's the same, they're all playing the same game They keep on working 'cause their bills are due They get the Sunday night blues, Sunday night blues Morning's on the way, and tomorrow's a working day I keep on working 'cause the bills are due I get the Sunday night blues, Sunday night blues Sunday night blues

Who are these people? I don't know them anymore I see them along the streets But they don't look the same as before And I know this much for certain I can see that the world has changed Am I the only who stayed the same? Everywhere, the faces the strangers And their names will never be known Now I see how small my world is And that I'm alone But I know this much for certain I can see that the world has changed Am I the only one that's stayed the same? But now I'm living in another world No, it ain't like yesterday Leaves me not knowing what to say I sit and I write my music I pour my heart into these songs But I know that no one's listening Guess I've known it all along And I know this much for certain I can see that the world has changed I'm the only who stayed the same 'Cause now I'm living in another world And I just can't find my way Feels like it's all just gone astray Oh now I'm living in another world No, it ain't like yesterday I seem to struggle every day 'Cause I'm living in another world No, it ain't like yesterday Leaves me not knowing what to say Oh now I'm living in another world Oh help me find my way Looking for a path through this decay Through this decay Through this decay Through this decay Through this decay

Lonely 04:32
Sometimes I get so lonely Just sitting 'round here And sometimes I am the only Poor fool that is near And oh, what good to tell you What been on my mind? I don't want to waste your time It's just that I've been wondering If you are lonely too? Have you been as blue... …As I have been? I tell you now, Lord, I think it's a sin 'Cause everyone needs someone That will love only them And oh, what good to tell you What's been on my mind? I don't want to waste your time It's just that I've been wondering If you are lonely too? Have you been as blue? Shut down, will there be others? You know there's many in the sea But everyone needs someone And there ain't no one for me And oh, what good to tell you What's been on my mind? I don't want to waste my time It's just that I've been wondering If you are lonely too?

The Pendulum 04:25
What were you saying? No, I didn't hear a thing They way we're swaying Yeah, it makes my head ring The news I'm hearing Oh, it makes me unwell Crying in my coffee at The broken arms hotel It costs so much The price so have to pay You're living hard for today But what of tomorrow? 'Cause day flows into day There's always a debt to repay That's the swinging of the pendulum That's the rhythm and the beating of your heart Don't you lose the equilibrium Or you'll never find your way back to the start It seems to me that things Are all the same in the end Don't know if that's true But it seems like a place to begin Extreme, and to one side Then we rebound the other way If we go out too far We'll lose another day It costs so much Each period surely counts I don't have time for these doubts I'm just here guessing And trying to estimate If I can afford to be late That's the swinging of the pendulum That's the rhythm and the beating of your heart Don't you lose the equilibrium Or you'll never find your way back to the start Back to the start

So you caught me in between A memory and a dream A sight to take me back But now in retrospect It always seemed so misplaced Yet never out of place It's comical to say the least Well, if that's what you really mean At least I gave my all I'll rise or I will fall And it took time to realize I'm not out here alone So I'll stay and I'll keep my eye Upon the western sky Transfixed by the glow Forgetting what I know It's always out of focus I can't see the magnum opus So I'll stay and I'll keep my eye Upon the western sky Transfixed by the glow Forgetting what I know It's always out of focus I can't see the magnum opus It's always out of focus I can't see the magnum opus It's always out of focus I can't see the magnum opus

Oh, the Ancient of Days saw the evil of man And it repented him that He made them He said the end of flesh is come before me now For their corruption, and their violence And it grieved him in his heart Oh, how it grieved him in his heart To break the world all apart The work of his hands His work of art But just one man found grace in his eyes Just this one man is set aside With wife and sons and wives of their own An ark to save them Both flesh and bone So when the door closes tight Right behind you and you're lock in Not every prison is grievous To be held within Secure enough to sleep Amidst the fountains of the deep Oh, the deep burst forth and the rains came down Yes, the windows were all opened Oh, the waters and all men fled But where on earth could they run to? And it grieved him in his heart Oh how it grieved him in his heart Don't you know that he heard their cries? Yes, he saw them as they died Now just eight souls, a remnant saved To fill again a world remade A promise signed by a bow in the sky Because next time it will be fire So when the door closes tight Right behind you and you're lock in Not every prison is grievous To be held within Secure enough to sleep Amidst the fountains of the deep

about

We've all been knocked down. It's a simple fact of life. If you live life in this world, you will suffer disappointment, and you will experience disillusionment. And yet, there are victories; though they are much like those fleeting moments when the soft glow of the setting sun colors the western sky and fills the heart with hope. So, look to the sky, grab hold of what hope offers, and stop dragging that old horse around.

Dragging That Old Horse Around is Black Creek Rock's fourth album; consisting of 13 tracks at approximately 58 minutes. This is classic rock and roll: electric and acoustic guitars, piano, organ, electric bass, and acoustic drums (with a few synths here and there - and maybe a few surprises along the way).

about

Black Creek Rock Gadsden, Alabama

Do you like crunchy guitar tones, thick bass, jangling piano, swelling organ and the raspy crack of the snare? If so, look no further because you've found it. This duo is from the deep south near to the muddy banks of Black Creek in Northeast Alabama. No profanity, no vulgarity, just music about subjects that are of interest to us.
